Consultation response on fostering law
This is the Equality Network's response to the Scottish Government's consultation on proposed changes to the law on fostering of children.
Early in 2008, the Scottish Government consulted on draft Looked After Children (Scotland) Regulations. These regulations will replace the current Fostering of Children (Scotland) Regulations 1996. The new regulations are expected to come into effect early in 2009, at the same time as the new adoption legislation, the Adoption and Children (Scotland) Act 2007, comes into effect.
The new regulations, as set out in the draft, will allow a same-sex couple to act as foster parents, something that is banned by the current fostering regulations.
Attached below you can find the consultation response submitted by the Equality Network.
