Briefing on proposals to overhaul sexual offences law
This is the Equality Network's briefing on the Scottish Government's consultation on major changes to rape and other sexual offences laws.
The Scottish Government are currently consulting on major changes to sexual offences laws in Scotland. The proposals for new legislation have been drawn up by the Scottish Law Commission. One aim of the proposed legislation is to eliminate the remaining discrimination in sex offences law on grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity.
You can find the details of the Scottish Government's consultation here. The consultation ends on March 14th 2008, and sometime after that (perhaps as early as May) the Government will introduce a Sexual Offences (Scotland) Bill in the Scottish Parliament.
Attached below you can find a briefing by the Equality Network that describes the proposed changes. Pages 1 and 2 describe how the proposals will affect LGBT people. Pages 3 to 6 give more details of the proposals.
