Provision of services: no discrimination
Gary McFarlane, former Relate counsellor who refused to provide sexual relationshio counselling to a gay couple, and defended this on the grounds of his Christian beliefs, lost his appeal bid last week. Lord Justice Laws said legislation for the protection of views held purely on religious grounds cannot be justified. "The precepts of any one religion – any belief system – cannot, by force of their religious origins, sound any louder in the general law than the precepts of any other." (

Sky TV: "I'm Coming Out"
A new one-hour British documentary follows the experiences of two men as they come out to friends and family. Debut 24th May at 10pm on Current TV (Sky Channel 183/Virgin Media Channel 155) The film follows one man's attempt to reconcile his sexuality with the religion he was brought up with and his family, who he hopes will finally accept him. Glasgow: Participate in the Big Debate
BBC Scotland's Political Editor, Brian Taylor, is chairing a live news debate from BBC Scotland, Pacific Quay, with his weekly BBC Radio Scotland show, a panel in front of an audience, similar format to the BBC's Question Time. You should arrive for between 11:30 and 11:45 (the broadcast is from 12:15-13:00). You can book your place in the audience by emailing brian@bbc.co.uk. Whether you can attend or not, you can send a topical news question/s relevant to you which may be included in the programme. Questions relating to news stories which have appeared in the news this week are also most welcome. (Be brief and to the point: the more succinct, the more chance of being picked.) Email your question to brian@bbc.co.uk by Thursday 6 May with your phone number. This programme is not open to candidates or councillors/MSPs/MPs/MEPs. To maintain balance, if you are an ordinary member of a political party, please declare it: you may be asked to sign a declaration on arrival stating your political association.

Despite the Dumfries and Galloway LGBT Centre being all but destroyed in the floods which hit Dumfries in late 2009, LGBT Youth Scotland are delighted to say that in April 2010, they moved to their brand new LGBT Centre at 88b High Street, in Dumfries. "Although it will take us a couple of weeks to settle in and get our systems up and running fully, by the beginning of May we aim to be fully functioning again." Attitudes of Workers: Engaging the Human Resource
Public Sector Productivity and Performance, The Barbican, London, 29 June 2010. This conference will focus on how both public and private sector organisations can not only maintain motivation, commitment and engagement, but also improve the attitudes of workers to inspire them to realise their maximum potential and deliver quality services in difficult times.
Book online. This one day conference will be chaired by Nita Clarke, Director of the Involvement and Participation Association (IPA). Tickets are limited to 250 and are awarded on a first come, first served basis. The delegate rate is £295 + VAT for public sector and £895 + VAT for private sector.

Bi and trans UNISON members are invited to national meetings in London on Friday 23 July. Get involved, network, find out what's going on, have your say. Bi members are meeting from 10.30am to 1pm. Lithuania: Save Baltic Pride now
The Vilnius City Administrative Court has suspended the
2010 Baltic Pride march on account of the risk of clashes with counter-demonstrators. Baltic Pride was supposed to be hosted this Saturday 8 May for the first time in Lithuania.
Amnesty International calls on supporters to Save Baltic Pride and demand that LGBT people's rights to freedom of expression and assembly are respected and protected in Lithuania. Stiofan McFadden, the LGBT officer for the NUS in Scotland, who is in Vilnius for Pride, described the decision as “absolutely unforgivable”. (

The NHS National Waiting Times Centre (NWTC) Board is a Special Health Board made up of two distinct parts – the Golden Jubilee National Hospital and the Beardmore Hotel and Conference Centre. The NWTC Board is responsible for ensuring proper management and accountability for the performance of the organisation as a whole. As Chair of the Board, you will be expected to play a central role in guiding the strategies which address the priorities and needs of the organisation and will be responsible for monitoring and evaluating the performance of the organisation. Argentina votes to legalise same-sex marriages
The Chamber of Deputies of Argentina approved a reform of the Civil Code to allow marriages between same sex, an initiative promoted by gay groups and rejected by the Church. After twelve hours of debate, the reform was approved by 126 votes to 109 in against and five abstentions, with what now must be approved by the Senate to take effect. (
