For me there was an 18-month period between when I was about 14 and 16 that I was bullied. Sometimes the bullying was quite bad and obviously it is still quite a searing memory for me. It was verbal and physical bullying, partly because I was the cleverest boy in the school, and partly because of the suspicion that I was gay - which turned out to be true, of course. When you are a gay teenager you don’t have a peer group to turn to for sympathy or to talk to. You don’t get any sympathy from teachers, and it is quite usual for gay teenagers not to have to come out to their parents or families.
