Hate campaign: "It’s as if they want me executed"
Bridget McConnell, head of Culture and Sport Glasgow, has been receiving a daily flood of abusive mail since July, when a public row was created over "Made in God's Image", the religious art exhibition associated with sh[OUT] at the Gallery of Modern Art in Glasgow. The police are concerned at the targeting of McConnell: one group of anti-LGBT campaigners openly declare their intention is to have McConnell removed from her post. McConnell says "The menace, intimidation and misogny expressed in a great deal of the correspondence is deeply worrying." (

Equality Bill: Discrimination claimed as a religious obligation
Today the House of Lords debates an Equality Bill exemption (27 January 2010) that would allow taxpayer funded faith schools in England and Wales to discriminate far more in employment than private organisations with a religious ethos. This exemption is opposed by the
Accord Coalition for inclusive schooling. (

Savi Hensman says (
Guardian) "The bishops have been energetic in resisting attempts to clarify equality law in line with the European Union's requirements and what many would regard as basic decency. Churches are allowed to discriminate against lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) people in appointing ministers of religion and recruiting for a limited range of lay posts. But senior clergy have become concerned that faith-based organisations might not have enough freedom to exclude those who do not fit their 'guiding doctrine and ethos'."

LGBT Families, Civil Partnership and Cohabitation
France: Civil partnerships granted legal recognition
The French government has publicly confirmed in an official bulletin that people living in France who are in a British civil partnership now have equal legal status to French couples who have registered a PACS, for all matters relating to inheritance, donations and income tax. The rules apply since August 2007, and reimbursements are due for those who have paid inheritance or donation tax in this period. This date corresponds to the one when French PACS partners first won these rights, which previously only applied to married couples. (
ConnexionFrance) The UK has granted same-sex couples who have registered a PACS equal legal status with civil-partnered couples since 2005. (
