LGBT Families, Civil Partnership and Cohabitation
Support same-sex partnerships across the EU by 15th January 2009
A cross-party group of MEPs has submitted a
Written Declaration (number 0076/2008) in the European Parliament to urge the Commission to draw up guidelines for mutual recognition of same-sex civil unions between member states in the European Union. You can write to your MEP to ask them to support this Declaration before the deadline: 15th January 2009. The UK Civil Partnership Act specifically recognises all civil unions equivalent to marriage, and all same-sex marriages, as a civil partnership in the UK, but this is not universal across EU countries with same-sex civil unions or marriage. You can find out who your MEP is, and fax a letter to them, via
www.writetothem.com.
