Transforming Arts
Thursday 5th February 2009, 8pm. In the LGBT Centre, 86 Bell Street, Glasgow. To mark LGBT History Month, TRANSFORMING ARTS will perform their collection of new poems and stories full of laughter and TRANSFORMING ARTS have been meeting since October 2008 to explore personal and collective histories of gender transformation and transgressing traditional gender boundaries. Edinburgh & the Lothians Police Surgery
2nd February (1st Monday of the month) 6.30-7.30pm
at the
Edinburgh Centre for Health and Wellbeing, 9 Howe Street
The monthly surgery gives individuals a chance to seek advice, raise any concerns around safety issues, report incidents, or make any comments on policing in their area in a friendly informal setting. You can also use this session, and all of our drop-in sessions to make a remote report of any incident. This provides you with an anonymous way to report or to give information that helps the police fight hate crimes. For further information please contact the Centre.
Training Day: Supporting LGBT People Experiencing Domestic Abuse
Friday 3rd February, 10am - 4pm, SWA offices, 2nd Floor, Rose St, Edinburgh. Designed for delegates who have already have an understanding of the dynamics of domestic abuse and wish to learn more about its impacts and support implications for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered people. Prime Minister honours LGBT victims in Holocaust Memorial Day statement
"The murder of six million Jews and countless Roma, Poles and other Eastern Europeans, gay men and lesbians, trade unionists, disabled people and political and religious opponents of the Nazis was not a sudden and frenzied explosion of hate, but a horror that had been methodically and carefully planned.
"Hatred may begin with small acts of prejudice or bigotry – but it rarely ends with them. That is why we all have an obligation to stand up to hatred. This Holocaust Memorial Day I hope that people all across Britain will join me in renewing a personal commitment to resisting hatred wherever it is found today." (

LGBT Youth Scotland is looking for two enthusiastic and committed young people (16 – 25) from five different areas in Scotland (Aberdeen, Dundee, Fife, Perth & The Borders) to become their first ever Green Light Leaders. This will involve coming on a two day training residential to learn about ‘coming out’ as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender (LGBT). (

Grandparents object to same-sex couple adopting
The Telegraph reports that grandparents who were rejected by social workers as adoptive parents for their grandchildren due to age/health issues, are now objecting to the same-sex couple with whom their grandchildren have been placed for adoption, on the grounds that they feel mixed-sex couples are better as adoptive parents. Petition the Scottish Parliament for the right to same sex marriage
Petition by Nick Henderson, on behalf of "LGBT Network", calling on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Government to amend the Marriage (Scotland) Act 1977 to allow two persons of the same sex to register a civil marriage and a religious marriage if the relevant religious body consents. (
