The Marriage and Civil Partnership (Scotland) Bill is an historic step forward for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) equality in Scotland.
However, as with most legislation, it can be improved. In particular, there are a number of small but important changes that are required in order to secure equal partnership rights for trans and intersex people.
That’s why the Equality Network has proposed five amendments to the Bill. The Equal Opportunities Committee has made recommendations in support of these amendments, and so far, at stage 2, two of the amendments (numbers 4 and 5 in the briefing below) have been made to the bill. We are continuing to work for the other three amendments.
