Now that Scotland’s historic equal marriage legislation has come into effect we know that many same-sex couples and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people will want to know how you can make use of the new law.
To mark the start of equal marriage the Equality Network has produced a new guide to marriage and civil partnership law in Scotland for LGBTI people.
10,000 copies have been distributed across Scotland, and you can view and download an online PDF version of the guide at: www.equality-network.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Marriage-and-Civil-Partnership-in-Scotland.pdf
The guide contains a foreword by Scotland’s First Minister, and provides all the information you need to know about how to register a marriage or civil partnership in Scotland, and the rights and responsibilities that come with it. As well as information on converting a civil partnership to marriage, the recognition that exists for foreign partnerships, and the impact of the new law on gender recognition for transgender people.
The Equality Network would like to say a huge thank you to BLM, the UK and Irish law firm, whose generous sponsorship made this guide possible. We would also like to thank the many marriage celebrants, wedding venues and service-providers who chose to show their backing for equal marriage by contributing to the guide.
