Pride in Our Community – Access Statement

Accessibility

This year at “Pride in Our Community” we are prioritising access.

We will update this access information as soon as we know more. If you have specific questions about access to this event, please email info@equality-network.org

UPDATED 16/6/25:

Getting into the park

Level access to Holyrood park is available from the main car park at the Palace of Holyroodhouse. From the car park to the site using the road / path, it is approx 280m, using the short cut over the grass, it is approx 200m.

There is a path leading from Spring Gardens which has a tarmacked path with a slight incline (approx 140m).

A satellite map displaying the approximate location of the staging. It's situated among multiple public paths in the northwestern corner of Holyrood Park. On the day of the event there will be accessible wheelchair paths leading from the asphalt road on the north to the staging. On the map the staging is marked with white colour and blue outline, while the accessible wheelchair paths are marked with yellow-black stripes. The map also shows public toilets to the north-east of the staging, at the edge of the park.

There is access from the bottom of Milton Street that has 8 steps with a hand rail leading to a gravel path into the park. Distance from this entrance to the site is approx 60m.

A staircase leading from Milton Street to Holyrood Park. It has 8 fairly wide steps and a handrail in the middle. It is enclosed by stone walls and metal fences on the sides.

There will be a path of rubber wheelchair accessible mats across the grass in the area near the stage, accessible from the path.

Edinburgh Pride Road closures

Pride in Community is an independent event happening on the same day as Edinburgh Pride.

Horse Wynd is likely to be closed from around 11.30am to 3pm and the Royal Mile is likely to be closed from around 12.30pm to 3.30pm on the day of the Edinburgh Pride. We will update this when road closure are officially announced.

Parking

Disabled parking spaces are available in the main car park adjacent to the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

Parking is also available at Broad Pavement and St Margaret’s Loch car park. You must pay for the parking at Broad Pavement (near Holyrood Palace). The cost is £1 an hour. St Margaret’s Loch is free to park for 2 hours.

Toilets

There are two non gendered accessible toilets at the Education Centre next to the area we will be hosting the event. They are accessed by a paved path. They are well equipped, including hand sanitiser. The decor inside is quite dark which some visually impaired visitors may struggle. It is possible to take a vehicle to the toilets and park alongside if required.

The internal view of a toilet unit in Holyrood Park. It has very dark tiled interior and ample space for wheelchair access. Besides the toilet, it's equipped with a horizontal and a vertical handrail, a bin, toilet paper, a sink, a hand sanitiser dispenser and a hand dryer.

BSL Interpretation

BSL interpreters will be on stage to interpret the speakers. Our volunteers can help you to get closer to the stage if you need to see them better.

Quiet space

It is a large park and there are plenty of places to get away from the group. There is also a small indoor space available with crafts.

Indoor space

There will be a small indoor space available in the Holyrood Park Education Centre  with craft supplies and activities.

Smoke free area

We ask that you do not smoke or vape near the stage area.

Seating

We are not able to provide seating for most attendees.

You may bring a folding seat or cushions with you if you need them.

A small number of seats will be available for people with access needs on a first come first served basis.

Food and Drink

We advise attendees to bring any food or water they need. We will provide some free water.

Inclusion Statement

This year we especially want to make it clear that we are inclusive of ALL LGBTI people.

In line with other Prides across the UK, no political parties will be speaking, although individual party members are very welcome to attend.

Instead we’ll have speakers from large and small community led groups who are inclusive of LGBTI people.

If you think that describes you and you want to claim a minute on the mic email rebecca@equality-network.org before Wednesday 18th June with a bit of info about yourself/your group to apply for a slot – we will do our best to accommodate as many folks as we can.

No exclusionary behaviour will be tolerated within our event.
