Belonging to the LGBT+ community

One of the most dramatic changes from the 2015 report was that the number of people who felt that they were ‘not at all’ a part of an LGBT+ community dropped from 21% to 10% between 2013 and 2022, and those considering themselves ‘very much so’ part of the LGBT+ community increased from 8% to 20%.

This represents a 52% decrease in the number of bi+ people who feel excluded from the LGBT+ community, and an increase of 150% in those who feel ‘very much’ part of it. This is also reflected in an increased visibility, confidence, and sense of belonging to a distinctive bi+ community, as discussed in the next section.

The number of respondents who felt that they belonged ‘quite a lot’ and ‘a little’ remained at around 44% and 26% respectively, as shown in the graph below:
