How we define bi+

Bi+ is an umbrella term used to refer to sexual orientations which express sexual and/or romantic attraction to more than one gender, or regardless of gender. However, not everyone covered by this definition will identify as bisexual; in the new survey we found that bi+ people used a wider range of words to describe their sexuality than they did ten years ago, and many used more than one term. This may point to a change in society, where people are more comfortable with more nuanced definitions and with defining themselves in multiple ways. The word cloud below is a representation of the main terms used.

Bisexual, Queer, Pansexual, Biromantic, Panromantic, Asexual, Bi-Curious, Bi Demisexual, Omnisexual, Aromantic, Grey-ace, Aroace, Demi ace, Demi aro, Demiromantic, Fluid sexuality, Heteroflexible, Omniromantic, Polysexual

Bi+ terms, like all terminology, are constantly developing and changing. Services should respect that people may use a wide range of terms to describe themselves and define these terms in different ways.
